3.5.4.1. Soundness and Bead Shape: Macro cross-sections of the weld shall conform to the minimum requirements on component drawings for the weld size, location, and configuration. 3.5.4.2. Penetration: Weld penetration as shown on cross-sectioned specimens shall meet the requirements (including tolerances) specified on component drawings. If tolerances are not given, they shall be ± 0.2T or ± 0.050 inches, whichever is less, where T is the specified depth of penetration. There shall be no missed seams.3.5.4.3. Undercut, and Underfill: Depth of undercut or underfill shall not exceed 0.05T or 0.005 inch, whichever is less, where T is the specified depth of penetration. If specified on Applied Materials drawings, exception to this requirement may be made on a case-by-case basis for some weld geometries.3.5.4.4. Discontinuities: 3.5.4.4.1. Surface porosity: Individual size shall not exceed 0.010 inch. Spacing shall not be less than 8 times the size of the larger imperfection. Accumulated length shall not exceed 0.040 inch for each 3 inches of weld.3.5.4.4.2. Sub-surface porosity and inclusions: Individual size shall not exceed 0.015 inch. Spacing shall not be less than 4 times the size of the larger imperfection. Accumulated length shall not exceed 0.060 inch for each 3 inches of weld.
