The physical structure of the garlic clove direction adjustment de-vice is shown in Fig. 1. The main components are: an industrial com-puter, an industrial camera, a ring lamp, the machine frame, a photo-electric switch and the clove adjustment component. This last component is composed of a stepping motor, a linear guide, a lateral push rod, a garlic clove lead-in plate, a righting slider and a Y-shaped collection tube. The method used to align the cloves perpendicular to the ground, facing upwards is illustrated in Fig. 2 and can be divided into four stages. In the garlic introduction phase, a single garlic clove is isolated using a specialized mono-clove picking device falls and placed into the inclined collection plate of the garlic clove guiding unit (Fig. 2a), where it subsequently slides down the guiding unit (Fig. 2b). The lateral push phase begins once the garlic clove is in the tray, as it triggers a pho-toelectric switch, which images the garlic clove (Fig. 2b). When the clove’s direction is determined using image pretreatment and clove alignment ecognition, a stepping motor drives the garlic clove tail first towards the Y-shaped chute (Fig. 2c). During the adjustment phase, the cloves shape and weight distribution cause it to rotate upwards as it falls into the Y-shaped tube, where it is gathered and re-directed into its final position (Fig. 2d). The rotation mechanism is illustrated in more detail in Fig. 3.
