It is just that they are pressed much farther than in the other parts of the work. They penetrate to its substance they give it its existence. We might say that the exposition suffers doubly under the burden of this reasoning effort. It presents peculiarities of a logical and even philological sort that have sometimes earned him criticism from scholars; their presence can be explained by the intense work of elaboration that pervades the text.
