With the continuous development of intelligent traffic management system, license plate recognition system is particularly important. With the emergence of license plate recognition system, vehicle management system becomes more digital and intelligent, and also increases the efficiency and convenience in the process of traffic management to a certain extent. The main process of license plate recognition system includes the following five steps: image preprocessing, license plate location, character segmentation and recognition.<br>In the image preprocessing stage, the color photos are grayed first. In the process of processing, the average grayscale is used. When there is no difference between the license plate and the background, the image is grayscale stretched and smoothed, and the Roberts Roberts operator is used to extract the edge. In the license plate location part, the license plate location algorithm is used to remove some small parts of the image, and only the main features are retained.<br>In the part of character segmentation and recognition, character segmentation is the process of extracting a single image. According to the space between characters in the image and the height and width of each character, each image to be recognized is divided into a single character. Character segmentation based on vertical projection is a common character segmentation method. Template matching is a character recognition algorithm used in this paper.
