We wanted to illustrate what the different components could look like across different sciencecontent areas. In discussions (such as the second-grade vignette), we also see younger students articulating their reasoning at times. Yet, typically in K–2 classrooms, students’ writing focuses on just the claim and evidence components of the framework. Throughout the book, we will include other examples from these earlier grade levels. Here we included more sophisticated examples to illustratewhat the components can look like when students gain more experience using the framework in both science talks and science writing.
