Cardiovascular endurance. Pregnant clients may be limited by their additional body weight, size, and energy level in regard to cardiovascular training. As the pregnancy progresses, non-weight-bearing exercise such as stationary equipment and swimming may be more easily tolerated than weight-bearing exercise.• Balance. Balance activities help the body to maintain proper position and spatial orientation as the body changes. These activities include static and dynamic balance exercises. Balance training is important for your client’s self-confidence and reduces the risk of falling.• Body composition. During pregnancy it is important to maintain lean mass and avoid excessive fat gain. Keep in mind, however, that it is appropriate for the woman to gain additional adipose tissue during pregnancy and that exercise should never be used for weight loss during pregnancy. Weight gain during pregnancy depends on preconception weight, the health of the pregnancy, and the growth of the fetus; the amount of weight a woman should gain during her pregnancy should be determined by her health care provider.
