Solomon et al. (2008) demonstrated increased scores in adaptive functioning and improvements in transitions for children after training their parents to give positive attention and praise for appropriate behaviors and ignore inappropriate behaviors. In addition, there were noted improvements with the child's willingness to share preferred items with others. During the introductory sessions, chnicians provided direct support to the parents by telling them what to say to their child. However, as the trainings progressed, the clinician took more of a support role by reinforcing appropriate parent-child interactions.
