Pinch analysis and process integration for fuel cell-based systems has been applied in several research studies found in the literature. Godat and Marechal [6] investigated the optimization of a low temperature proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) system using process integration techniques. The improvement in the heat integration of the system has resulted in an electrical efficiency increase of 14%. Marechal et al. [7] studied a general methodology for the optimization of fuel cell-based systems, including process integration. This study combined the use of process simulation and process integration techniques to calculate thermo-economic performances used in a multi-objective optimization framework.
