This works proposes a signal conditioning method which can be used to allow the use of instantaneous IMEP method withhigher accuracy. Thus, the proposed method is an improvement of the ones presented in [20–26], with emphasis on the signalconditioning steps to improve the accuracy in the connecting rod force measurement. It uses a proper connection of thestrain gauges in a six-wire Wheatstone bridge circuit with alternating voltage excitation, and demodulation and filtering ofthe measured signal. A step-by-step procedure for the design of the signal conditioning system is presented to allow theadaptation of the proposed method to different applications. An experimental test rig was built to analyze the viability ofusing a strain gauge bridge bonded on the mid-span of a sintered connecting rod to measure the friction forces throughthe connecting rod strain behavior. Thus, the experimental evaluation presented in this paper was made considering theworst-case scenario and a household compressor was used for that purpose, since, in addition to the sintered connectingrod, it has the following characteristics:
