In both Melon Code Black and JWH-203, a TOCSY interaction between H-4 and H-6 on the indole ring was observed, sothis could potentially be a signature TOCSY spot. An H-4/H-6interaction attributed to JWH-122 is not observed, which couldbe due to a low concentration of this compound on the herb, orbecause of other signals overlapping in this region. However,an H-500/H-700 interaction from the naphthyl group on JWH-122is observed. A major advantage of TOCSY is that the overlapping signals oen observed in the alkyl regions of “Dirty”solution extracted from herbal incenses are more clearlyresolved and therefore more easily elucidated. TOCSY providesadditional signature spots to those obtained from COSYexperiments allowing for more accurate signal elucidation ofaliphatic hydrogens that are typically difficult to ngerprint in 1H NMR.
